8 Enablers Of Fornication And Sexual Sins

8 Enablers Of Fornication And Sexual Sins

I wrote an article on how to avoid fornication and it has not ceased from brining me heart troubling revelations. I have received countless mails on people wanting to stop fornication and other sexual sins. The one I wrote on Masturbation hasn’t gotten quite that much response but I have received mails from some of my readers who are looking for ways to disengage from these destructive habits and sins. While I try to keep up with replies, prayers, counsels for these readers whom I have developed a burden and passion for, it does not cease to break my heart to know the number of people struggling with sexual sins. This hurts me really bad because I know the harm sexual sins do to the body, not just to the soul.
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV

I must agree that the struggle is real. The pulls of this world can drag anyone down, especially we are not sober and vigilant enough to know how much the devil is after us and our souls.

We must realize that the devil hates us passionately and is constantly looking to bring us down.

We must not give him a chance in our lives or he will take CHANCES to turn us completely from God.
It is a settled fact that we have dominion over sin, Jesus, nailed sin to the cross and purchased our victory over sin and death. The mistake we make is to think that because we have dominion over sin we can play with it. So we often let down our guards, ignore every warning, throw caution in the air or just assume that we can play with sin and then stroll away from it. Joseph knew better, he knew that wisdom demands that when the occasion demands it, we ought to flee like in the bible verse above.
On today’s post I want to share about some things that encourage of sexual sins.

Enablers Of Fornication And Other Sexual Sins

  1. What we look at

Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. Matthew 6:22 NLT
What we focus our eyes on with will determine what our minds dwell on. I know your mind might go straight to pornography, while pornography is deadly all by itself, there are subtle sensual movies the mind tries to convince us are harmless but can be as deadly as watching a completely pornographic image.
When we read pornography or things that form unwholesome images in our minds we are “playing” with sensual sins. Our minds absorb a lot already, we should not compound the battles we must fight to keep sane minds by voluntarily feeding our minds those unhealthy things.

In order to keep our minds pure and healthy, we must deliberately put a stop to whatever we are watching or reading that keeps rolling sensual thoughts and images back and forth in our heads. This is because what we think on is what we will eventually do. Even if we escape doing them and manage to get away with thinking them, we haven’t really gotten away because Jesus said…

…whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:28 NKJV

This goes for us women too… thinking about it is as bad as doing it.

  2. What we listen to

I wrote about why I avoid secular music some years ago and this is one reason why. The ear feeds the mind just like the eyes do. It is sad to hear some of the songs being sung and played these days; vulgar and sensual, creating sensual images and desires in the hearts of people. One time I had to plead with someone driving me in his car to turn off the radio. I know that some people like my husband might not quite get the lyrics to some of these songs but not me or my children… And I often find myself humming to a song I heard in places like grocery stores, salons, restaurants and such other public places, and all the time this happens involuntarily.
So as a rule no secular music plays in our car, electronic gadgets or screen. And if when I have the opportunity in public places I politely as for a change or if possible I ask that the radio be switched off. When I was in Nigeria I could achieve this at a high percentage of time but in Windsor where we live now, things are quite different. So I have my earpiece and if I can, I play my own songs into my ears or otherwise the minute I step out I begin singings songs and speaking words to clean up my mind.

When we listen to all those songs and being singing them, thoughts of us in the situation painted in the song can become a tool for the devil to put an unholy desire in us that seeks gratification by all means. This is what usually leads to sexual sin.
I have to add here that when it comes to listening, it does not have to be songs only, it can be anything from conversations, discussions, audio books and movies…

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23 ESV

What happens to our hearts happens to our lives so we must protect our hearts by protecting our ears.

  3. Where we go to

The kind of places we expose ourselves to can to a large extent lead us into sexual sins. Going to parties where every ungodly act is promoted, going to clubs to “have fun”, visiting houses where all our principles are not valued… going to places where sinning is inevitable… we must refuse to let our feet take us to a place where we compromise our faith and lose our peace in God.
There are sometimes I attend some people’s parties and without being rude about it I find a way out of their almost as soon as I got their. We must do everything to make sure stay away from places where our eyes and ears will affect our hearts and minds against God’s word.
Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22

  4. People we spend time with

It is true to say that we cannot hang around s particular people without taking on some of their words, manners and thoughts. This is why we must be careful who we let into our inner lives. There are some people who we have noticed do not make us feel good in our spirits when we are with and after we leave them, we should for not wanting to appear rude begin decreasing the amount of time we spend with those people. I am not preaching heat here, I am only asking that we recognize people whose values and principles of life are on parallel with our and receive wisdom on how to redefine our relationships with them.
There are some situations we can control and there are some we just need to make drastic decisions about, because, we eventually become like the people we hang with and many times we get into trouble if we do not take heed.
If we keep hanging with people who will always share their sexual escapades and mock us when we frown at it, we should watch it. Some will even try to encourage us to do it because it is “harmless” and tending, but we ought to stay away because if we do not, there are chances that they might influence us to do what they say or do.
Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. Proverbs 13:20 NLT
    a mouse trap

  5. Neglect of the spirit

When we neglect our spirit we are setting ourselves up for falling into all kinds of sins, including sexual sins. When we:
-stop reading God’s word with a passionate hunger
-no longer meditate on God’s word
-start skipping prayers or stop praying completely
-begin avoiding fellowship with other christians
we make ourselves easy preys to the enemy and when he throws even the lightest weapon at us, we lack the power to overcome. These things our the things that ill build our faith and give us strength to avoid, flee from and overcome sin. These are the things that give us wisdom and make us battle ready against the enemy at all times.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,
against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— Ephesians 6:10-18 NKJV

  6. It is natural

One great lie the enemy often sells is that no one can actually live above sin, especially sexual sin. He tells believers that God created the desire in us so that makes Him understand our need to fulfil the urges. This is a big lie.
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:14 NKJV
If it were so, that we cannot overcome sin, then that would make God an unjust God, asking us to do things He well knows we are incapable of and yet chastises us when we do not do them. God knows that every child of His has the ability to live a holy life, He knows this because he lives in us to enable us.
The Bible says that we overcome because He who is in us is greater than he who is in this world.
    1 John 4:4
God is in us prompting us to will and to do according to His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13 He won’t force us, He will only prompt us, the choice to do is still ours to make.

  7. Past redemption

Some people feel like they are past redemption and so there is no point trying to stop. This is a deceit from the enemy. He uses this to tie men and women down in sin encouraging them to go because they are in too deep, serial offenders and God cannot forgive them. There is no sin that God cannot forgive, no matter how “big” and for how long. The blood of Jesus is alive and strong enough to cleanse us from every and any degree of sexual sin, enter still, He waits with open arms to receive us… He has been chasing after us all the while even when we cannot see Him.
But the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him. Daniel 9:9 NLT
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9 NLT
We can never be past redemption, God is always willing to forgive, as long as we genuinely repent, He forgives. We must refuse to let the enemy rob us of the grace that is abundantly flowing towards us. He is a big liar and deceit, a thief, a murderer and a destroyer. We must arise like the prodigal son and return to our Father who waits for us and runs towards us with open arms.

  8. Abuse of grace

Sometimes because we find forgiveness as many times as we need it, we might think we can go on and keep asking for forgiveness, but God cannot be mocked.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Galatians 6:7-8 NKJV
God forgives us so that we can turn completely to Him not because he wants to give us the permission to continue in sin. We cannot continue in sin because grace abounds, the Apostle Paul says, “God forbid” Romans 6:1-2 and we must agree with him and God’s word. We must fight sexual sins and other sins with everything in us, we offend God terribly when we take His grace, goodness and forgiveness for granted. And we must always remember that God cannot be mocked.

I hope outlining some of these sexual sin enablers will help someone arise and say “no” to every form of sexual sin and carry his/her body like the sacred and treasure temple it is. Our bodies are meant for honour and dignity and not to satisfy every desire it pulls on us. Let us refuse to allow these enablers in our lives from now and allow the fulness of God’s glory to manifest in and through us.

Have you recognized some of these enablers?
Are there any ones missing here?

  1. I’ve been studying through Galatians and see many of the principles and themes that you are dealing with so well here in today’s post, Ugochi. I commend you for tackling the tough and troubling topics of our time. I also loved what you said here, “The mistake we make is to think that because we have dominion over sin we can play with it.” So true! The “old man” has been crucified but our flesh must continue to be crucified by resisting temptation in the power of Christ. I know this post will help so many, my friend!

    1. Amen! Thanks Beth, our flesh needs to be continually subdued in order for us to live an acceptable life by God. I am so glad for your input here.
      Have a super blessed day!
      Love

  2. Thank you ma. Our dressings as female Christian is one of the enablers. When our dressing aren’t modest it will cause lust. God bless.

    1. Our dressing matters to God. Modesty is a command and anyone who listen to The Holy Spirit will know what to wear and how to wear it. God bless you for coming by, so sorry I did not reply earlier.

  3. God bless you for this ma! Miss you dearly!!
