Masturbation is a highly debated subject in some quarters, while in some others it is hardly ever talked about. But it is something real and a concern for many who do not know where to go to or who to turn to for help. Some do not see anything wrong with it, while some are struggling to stop and some stop for a while and find themselves fall right back into it.
I share here some ways I believe one can put a complete stop to this habit. I wrote something about it last week and this is a continuation, if you would like to, you can read my first post on masturbation HERE.

The devil always wants to sell his lies to people who are engaged in masturbation and all other sexual perversions:
“It does not matter”
“You are flesh and blood”
“You cannot stop it”
“God understands, you have to satisfy these sexual urges after all He put them in you.”
The devil is a liar and the father of lies, everything he says to you contradicts directly with God’s command and he must be resisted with God’s word.

In order to overcome masturbation or any other sin;

1. You must AGREE that it is sin.
You must totally agree and believe that masturbation is sin and displeasing to God. This is the very first step to your victory. This is the first step to your victory. When you come to this point, nothing the devil, anyone, or your flesh says can or will convince you that it is okay to continue, or that it does not matter.

Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom.

Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

2. You must KNOW that you can be forgiven.
A lot of times satan keeps people stuck in sin because he wants them to believe that they have failed God terribly and there fore God cannot forgive them and He keep looking at them as sinners. The moment you genuinely repent and ask God for forgiveness, he forgives you completely and does not remember it anymore.

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
1 John 1:9 NLT
I–yes, I alone–will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again. Isaiah 43:25 NLT

And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins. Hebrews 8:12 NLT
Jesus did not shed His blood for nothing. By His blood He purchased our forgivness. By His blood we can be cleansed from all unrighteousness. There is no kind of sin that His blood cannot save and cleanse us from.

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

3. You must KNOW that you can stop it.
You must believe and know for sure that you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you. Philippians 4:13
Jesus is willing and able to help you overcome every temptation and sin. He was tempted but He never fell into sin, so He can help us do the same. All you need to do is trust Him and call on Him for help.

For in that He himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. Hebrews 2:18 WEB

Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. Romans 6:14 NLT

For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 1 John 5:4 NLT

4. You must WANT to stop it.
Your desire to stop it must be so strong that you are willing to do all (in righteousness) that it takes to put an end to it. You must make up your mind to please God by obeying His commands. You must make up your mind to honour God with your body.
For God bought you with a high price. So you must honour God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:20 NLT

But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself… Daniel 1:8 NASB

5. You Must fill your mind with God’s word.
a. By Reading God’s Word.
Like water washes the body clean from dirt, God’s word washes the mind from sinful thoughts. A regular study of God’s word, with focus on verses on sexual immorality, overcoming sin, the blood of Jesus, walking in righteousness and the likes will rid cleanse the mind.

…To sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word. Ephesians 5:26 NET

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17

b. By Thinking On God’s Word.
What you meditate on, you will act on. If you constantly think on God’s word, sinful thoughts will no longer find room in your mind.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 NLT

In my heart I store up your words, so I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11 NET

6. You Must Pray Constantly.
You must constantly talk with God in prayers. When you spend time with God in prayers, you receive grace and strength to overcome.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 NLT

Take the word of God, for example these ones I shared here and turn them into a conversation with God. In prayer you receive wisdom and power to overcome. If you do not pray then you make yourself an easy prey for the devil. It is in prayer that you receive power to resist temptation.
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.
Mark 14:38 NLT  Spending time to speak in tongue is one way to build your faith to with stand all the fiery darts of the enemy.
But dear friends, use your most holy faith to build yourselves up, praying in the Holy Spirit. Jude 1:20 NCV

7. You Must Be Sensitive To And Yield To The Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is our Helper. He helps us by reminding us of God’s word and constantly telling us where, what, how, with whom…
When you fill your mind with God’s Word, The Holy Spirit will often bring the word back to you when you need it. All you need to do is yield yourself to Him and obey, then you will not fall for the cravings of your flesh. Remember, you receive the power to obey as you spend time in prayer. He enables us to overcome, He is The Power Of God.
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. Galatians 5:16 NLT

8. You Must Avoid Temptations.
There are things you watch, things you read, places you go, people you hang out with, music you listen to… that bombard your mind with ungodly thoughts and stir your flesh toward sinning. You must do whatever you need to do to guard your mind and not expose yourself to these people, places or things.
Cut yourself off from any person, place or thing that feeds your flesh… Your eyes and ears are gateways to your heart and mind, therefore you must be deliberate about protecting yourself from whatever will lead you to sin.

And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires. Romans 13:14b NLT

9. You Must Make Yourself Accountable To Someone Or People.
Surrounding yourself with the right kind of people is of great importance in overcoming sin. Establish a relationship with someone or some people who you can talk to regularly about what is going on in that area of your life. Someone who will also check up on you regularly to know how you are doing, pray with you and go over God’s word with you.

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there is safety. Proverbs 11:14

Being involved in a local Church where your spirit is constantly fed by regular Bible studies and which has active support groups will help greatly.
We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing. Instead, we must continue to encourage each other even more as we see the day of the Lord coming. Hebrews 10:25 GW

10. You Must Think Of The Consequences.
One of the things you can do to stop a particular sin is to think of the consequences. When you weigh the consequences against the pleasure, you will know that you ought to deny yourself of the pleasure of sin in order to gain a bigger, better and everlasting pleasure.

In and with Christ, you can overcome the world and all the evil it presents you. Christ in you is greater than the sin fighting against you. I know you can overcome because several others have overcome.
You do not have to stay bound by this sin. It has destroyed lives, marriages and families.
It shall not destroy you in Jesus name. Amen!
