God wants us to be rich; He said it time and time again in His word, and He means it. In fact, it is one of the reasons He sent Jesus to come and die at Calvary. He became poor that through His poverty we all might become rich. But there is something greater, something more profitable, something of high eternal consequence.

Riches are only profitable for here and now it is only temporal even though it is God’s blessing. It will not affect your eternity like righteousness will; righteousness determines what happens to us when Jesus returns. It determines where we spend forever, it keeps us in total peace with God. And that my friend is the most important thing to consider: The escape from death, not just physically but eternally.

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death. Proverbs 11:4
