DRESSED TO KILL

DRESSED TO KILL

Now that I got your attention, I will tell you what this is all about. But first let me tell what it is not, it is not an idiomatic expression (not in this case), I am not talking about a kind of dressing to get everyone’s attention, it is not the  1980’s erotic crime thriller either, I wouldn’t recommend the movie to anyone (showing indecent clips) in my opinion.

Now what is this all about? You must be wondering: it is about dressing right in order to face every day’s challenges. Life is a war with different battles to fight. And like in any battle, if you stand unprepared you become a casualty of this war called life.

We must not just wait on life, wait to live, we must prepare to live! No one who knows there is a battle to fight just steps into the battle front casually, that would be a suicide mission.

We must be prepared every day to face and overcome the challenges life will throw at us, we cannot escape these battles as long as we breathe and live on this planet. So it is best we know the right kind of armour to put on every day.

Life is not funfair, if it was I would have no business discussing this here. Every challenge, every trial, every temptation, every sickness, every lack, every persecution and the other many things we have to contend with are battles in this war called life. They are battles we cannot escape, battles we must have to fight one time or another until we depart the earth.  So dress up we must, dressed with both defensive and offensive armour helps us to stand up and stand strong in the face of life’s daily challenges. I am not referring to helmets, swords and all; the armour I am talking about here is much more superior and way greater than these mere physical things that can be destroyed. I am talking about your spiritual armour, the battles we face are more spiritual than physical, and everything you see comes from the unseen.
2Corinthians 10:3

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

When you are able to conquer in the spiritual realm, the physical becomes a walk over because the spiritual controls the physical.  And since we fight a spiritual battle we are to dress in spiritual armor:

2Corinthians 10:4 (GW)

The weapons we use in our fight are not made by humans. Rather, they are powerful weapons from God.

So what should we dress in?

Ephesians 6:11

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

And a further read will reveal the armour

Ephesians 6:14-18

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Let us run through them:

  • For the belt -truth- knowing and following the truth Proverbs 12:19, 20:28
  • For the breastplate- righteousness Proverbs 14:34
  • For the shoes- the gospel-walking in obedience to the gospel Isaiah 1:19
  • For the shield- faith Mark 11:23
  • For the helmet- salvation- Being hopeful of victory
  • For the sword- God’s word Revelation 12:11, James 1:21
  • Then comes prayer Luke 22:40
  • And perseverance: no quitter ever wins Hebrews 10:36

These are the “dresses” we must put on daily if we must “kill” our challenges and overcome them. Remember we cannot escape challenge but we can stand strong in the midst of life’s battles and win.

Are you “dressed to kill” today?

    I enjoyed reading this post. As you stated, the real battle is in the spiritual realm. The arm of flesh is no match for a spiritual battle. If we try to fight our battles with natural weapons, results will be subpar.

    That’s one fundamental truth: life is difficult. It’s laden with challenges one after the other. But when we have God in our hearts, there’s nothing we can’t handle.
