20 Sep I Killed A Man
For me it was a day like every other one, even with the fighting going on. I was just up and about doing my normal house chores, the children have run off to play, it was still peaceful over here, the fighting had not reached us yet, so we were all living our normal lives, though with a bit of caution.
The slaves are calling for war with the king; it seems like a suicide mission. I wasn’t really surprised though, this leader is so cruel especially to these people, I am sure they are just fed up and refuse to think of the consequences of what they are doing. He was very cruel and violent towards them; I have never stopped wondering why he seemed to hate them with such a perfect hatred. But these slaves have got nerves; this king is the mightiest there is, with the strongest army and armory. I cannot imagine why they think they can survive the king and his army.
He is a ruthless one indeed, why he let us live here is still a mystery, maybe because he believes we are no threat to his kingdom. My husband just wanted to get away from the other members of family, they do not understand why, but my husband means no offense at all.
Well, I am still up and about my chores, the house is quite a mess, and I have to hurry with my chores before my children come back into the tent. It becomes harder doing chores while they are home, with all the “mother!” here and “mother!” there. But I still cannot help thinking about the ongoing war, just this morning we heard, how will this end? I just hope it does not get to us, we cannot stand anymore wars. The devastations are… “Call him in and kill him…”
Who is that? I jolted as I spun around, I was alone, I peeked outside the tent , looked around but no one was there. What is going on, I was so sure I heard someone, or I am dealing with exhaustion?
“Call him in and kill him” the voice was so compelling so strong.
“Who are you?” I trembled “Show yourself!”
“I am the God of Israel, The Almighty God. Call Sisera in and kill him, he is almost here, I have chosen you to kill him, I will deliver him into your hand and give my people victory and free them from the Canaanite king.”
“I have heard of you…I am afraid, am I going to die?! What am I saying, am I actually going to be able to do this, why am I sounding like I am agreeing?!
“Not if you obey me and kill Sisera…”
“Wait, wait don’t go…” I ran out of the tent, after the voice…
“Woman, woman…!”
“Y..y…yes!” I turned in utter fright to see a tired warrior breathing down on me
“I am Sisera, commander in chief in charge of the Canaanite army, you must hide me, the Israelites are coming after me, you must tell them you didn’t see me.”
“C…c…come in sir, come into my tent, do not be afraid.” Still trembling and confused, I put him behind a curtain.
“Please give me a drink of water; I am thirsty” He gasped
Without much thought I gave him a whole leather bag of milk instead, and hid him again. He told me to stand at the door and say no if anyone asks if he is here.
Few moments later I heard heavy snoring and I went to take a peep only to find him in a very deep sleep, boy, he must be extremely exhausted!
“…kill Sisera…” That voice again…
I grabbed a tent peg and a hammer…what am I doing…I drove the peg through the side of his head and into the ground. What have I done, did I just kill a man, what will King Jabin do with me, what if the Israelites lose the war?!
Suddenly an Israelite soldier (I could tell by his dressing) came looking for him and I called him in and showed him the man I just killed. I later learnt that Israel had won the war, and I was being celebrated all over the country.
I don’t get it, why did the God of heaven and earth, The Almighty God, The God of Israel choose me, I am just an ordinary woman, running my home, looking after my husband and children, why me…I just don’t understand…

Posted at 00:51h, 21 Septemberwow, you retold that story well. Sometimes God uses me and I don’t even realize, it could be something simple like asking how someone is or taking a friend out to lunch, and then I find out later that they were going through something and I was an answered prayer for them in that moment. It’s such an awesome humbling experience when you realize you’ve been used by God!

Posted at 22:00h, 20 SeptemberI don’t think so. Certainly nothing extraordinary like Jael. But it’s wonderful to see and hear of stories when God does use people in the most unexpected of ways.
